A vacation surprise - 26-28 May 2012

Nice, a long weekend because of the holdidays just up to the weekend.
We had talked about using it for several things and had settled for being practical at home... at least I though so.

When I came home from work had Marco packed a bag for all 4 of us and decided that we are not staying home. I got 2 minutes to grap a few more things before we all took of in the car. Where to go? He hadn't decided... We drove east. I realized that Marco had only packed a few things for one day away so I purchased more diapers for the kids and proclaimed we would stay away the whole long weekend.

We settled on driving to Berlin.
However many others then us had decided to have time of from home so the highway was growded and we had to find a hotel for the night less then 200 km from home.

First stop after leaving the hotel was Eisenach, know for Martin Luther and Bach.

Here are Marco in the company of Bach

And I'm in front of Bachs old house.
The kids were happy to get out of the car and do some sightseeing...though they didn't feel like walking.
The Luther family according to the local's.

Arriving in Berlin, by taking the wrong exit. It turned out not to be the scenic tour!!!

Guess where we are... Yes Brandenburger Tor.

 Old and new.

 Rows of statues
 Silver actors
In front of the Richstag. We had planned to see it from within but we found out we had to book 3 days ahead of time.

And are corrected by her father.
I can't remember if this installation is for the splitted Germany or united Germany or for the old BDR or DDR. But it was beautiful done and gave a lot of atmosphere inviting for reflection.

The water is always an attraction and Ale loves the boats.

Along the side of the river was a marked with good chances of getting pick-pocket. At least if felt like that to me.
This is Marco's new glasses that he treasure very much. He took about a 100 photo's of his glasses while we waited for him...

Time for a kid break. We found a good playground.
 With a nice stone slide.

And a nice tower to climb.

 Ale love's to climb.
Can life be any better :)
 Historical moment.
 Hmmm where to go now?
Lets go to the TV tower.
 Adn play with the water.

Alexander platz and the time around the world.

The second day in Berlin we went to Charlottenburg.

It is so beautiful. Why can't Amalienborg in Copenhagen be like this. Even the garden is so much more!

The stroller was not allowed in door and the kids was tired. So we carried the kids and bagpack and camera in our arms. A sleeping child is VERY heavy. 2/3 of the time inside the castle we changed and I got Iris. The 3 kilos difference between her and Alessandro could be felt. But my arm was still dead.
Maybe one should redecorate at home...
A nice public park/garden behind the castle.

Ale tells about what is going on.

They know they are not suppose to throw the small stones, but the temptation always seem to win.
